ABOUT
ANIMA MAGNETA was a triptych influenced by Lewis and Szelag’s 2018 piece ANIMA. ANIMA MAGNETA further explored, through dance and live music, theories in David Abram’s 1996 book The Spell of the Sensuous. Key themes discussed by Abram remained relevant: the transformation of sensory awareness due to our immersion with technology, animism, and our symbol-induced alienation from nature. Choreographer Amy Lewis and sound artist Agnes Szelag interweaved dance, video, and sound to create an experience of a surrogate reality where seemingly disparate ideas and dimensions suddenly coexisted.
